Heat Transfer Kits
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Can I transfer heat into more than 3 rooms? At present Carrier has designed the kit to fit a three room maximum. A 2 room splitter may be added to a 3 room kit, with extra ducting and outlet grille to move air to another room. This will not provide as efficient a system as the 3 room kit, however, it can and has been done successfully. 2. Can extra ducting be added to transfer heat further? Carrier recommend adhering to the specified kit measurements for best results, however, we recognise that many houses are designed differently. There have been a number of installations moving heat up to 18m away from the heat source and working almost as efficiently. Adding extra duct means the hot air has to move further, hence a small heat loss. Any further than 18m is strongly discouraged. 3. Will my Heat Transfer Kit heat up the bedrooms to the temperature in the living room? Although the Heat Transfer Kit is designed to move heat, there will be a temperature drop in the process. It should be remembered that you require your rooms to be comfortable, hence the Heat Transfer Kit is designed to warm the rooms rather than make them hot. 4. Can I move heat up or down stairs? It is possible to duct up and down. Depending on the application, moving heat up occurs naturally and with the help of the in-line duct fan the hot air will move downwards just as effectively. 5. How noisy is the fan motor? Because the fan is installed in the ceiling roof space, the noise level is cut down significantly to a constant hum which can be heard. Carrier have installed over 1000 kits without any noise complaints. 6. Can I install a bigger fan motor? Carrier has put together a well balanced system. If a more powerful fan is used, there is the possibility of more noise and gales of air. A smaller fan results in a limited volume of hot air passed through. 7. Can I get a thermostat and how does it work? Yes, you can purchase an accessory thermostat. The thermostat is installed in your living room / lounge area. Once set at the required temperature, and the ceiling space reaches this temperature, the Heat Transfer Kit automatically switches on. A thermostat is a good idea to prevent the Heat Kit being turned on too early before your living room is well heated. 8. What is the accessory speed controller for? A speed controller is designed to reduce the airflow, especially when the kit is used as a ventilation system (explained later). It has been noted that when the kit is used as a ventilation system the air movement is more noticeable and a sped controller is useful to reduce these drafts. 9. Can I restrict the airflow or heat to any of the other rooms in a 2 or 3 Room kit? All the kits come standard with easy, full adjustable outlet grilles that can reduce or even shut off air to one or more rooms. 10. How does the kit work as a ventilation system in the summer? Just as the kit is designed to transfer heat during winter, it can also be used to transfer cool air during summer. Simply by opening windows in the living area a fresh air source is provided and once moving, the fresh air feels cool. By opening windows in the bedrooms there is a continual cycle of air keeping the house cool. 11. Does the Heat Transfer Kit work like a dehumidifier? The Heat Transfer Kit is not a dehumidifier, however it does reduce the risk of dampness because it provides a constant air movement, therefore preventing moisture settling on cool surfaces. 12. How is the Kit installed? Simple instructions are provided with each Kit, however it is recommended that a registered electrician wire the fan. We have noticed that some people have difficulty installing the fan. The fan does need to be suspended from the ceiling joists to prevent noise and vibration. Because all houses are designed differently we have not provided any specific straps to do this. One effective way to suspend the fan in many home ceiling spaces is by using the brass electrical earthing strap available from any electrical supplier. Simply cut a piece of this in half, unscrew the nuts on the side of the fan and attach the straps to either side and screw back up, attach the other ends of the straps to the ceiling rafters, allowing the fan to hang freely and therefore not vibrating against anything. 13. Is the Heat Transfer Kit expensive to run ie. Power consumption? The 1,2 and 3 room Kits will all use the same power (or less) as a 100w light bulb. 14. What is the warranty on the fan? The in-line duct fan comes with a 12 month warranty. 15. I recently noticed another brand of Transfer Kit retailing for less, why is this? Carrier has designed a well balanced system that has undergone extensive trialing before being introduced to the market. The fan motors are powerful and reliable and all ducting is insulated to reduce heat loss. Some other kits provide under-powered fans and uninsulated ducting, obviously to save on costs at the expense of providing a superior product. ![]() |
